The richest, most powerful nation on earth faces a fiscal "tsunami" which threatens to overwhelm Government and citizens alike. Who says so? America's auditor in chief, David Walker, whose job it is to oversee all Federal spending. He's pleading with US politicians and taxpayers to face up to the harsh economic realities that come with an ageing population and spiralling budget deficits. But is economic disaster really so close at hand? Stephen Sackur talks to David Walker.

Francis Fukuyama has been accused of being a pseudo-thinker and a sloppy academic — accusations that are not entirely without foundation. Harsh reviews from unforgiving critics however serve to dismiss his contribution to current popular political debate. Fukuyama is a populist historian and a commentator as much as he is a scholar. True, his historical analyses are often sweeping and at times overly simplistic, yet it is precisely this broad-brush approach that lends him weight. His discursive style and penchant for punchy book titles has opened him up to an audience outside of academia, and his previous career and personal friendships have given him one within the Whitehouse.

Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Chairman of the 94-member House Immigration Reform Caucus, issued the following statement today on immigration matters:

“The [recent] immigration rallies show how disordered our immigration system has become. For years, the government has turned a blind eye to illegal aliens who break into this country. It isn’t any wonder that illegal aliens now act as if they are entitled to the rights and privileges of citizenship.

The suggestion comes from perhaps the most feted liberal intellectual in the world - the American linguist Noam Chomsky. His latest attack on the way his country behaves in the world is called Hegemony or Survival, America's Quest for Global Dominance.

The War On Christians And The Values Voter in 2006 Conference (March 27-28 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.) will be unique in many ways. It will be the first conference to cover every aspect of the cultural war on Christians -- including attacks by Hollywood, the news media, gay activist and leftist groups like the ACLU and Anti-Defamation League.

Here is the conversation word for word with Joe Scarborough on the MSNBC program Scarborough Country. I was on satellite hookup in New Orleans and he had the possibility to completely cut me off at will, which he did repeatedly. In contrast, he treated Jewish extremist, Alan Dershowitz with the utmost respect and gave him all the time he wanted. After interviewing me, he repeatedly bemoaned the fact that there should be a debate on the issues, but no one would debate because we knew that we were wrong about our beliefs that the Israel Lobby was a key factor in the Iraq War. He said all this all this while I was still sitting before a camera, miked and ready to debate both Scarborough and Dershowitz. As typically true in the Jewish-dominated media, the program turned to an extremist Jewish partisan to give the final word and tell the American people what all the controversy was about. They left it to a Jewish supremacist to interpret the events for the Boobus Americanus. Dershowitz is by the way a “human rights lawyer” who has come out advocating torture in the United States of America. (And I am called an “extremist!” ) I will also include my comments to the conversation in brackets and bold faced.

For the past several decades, and especially since the Six-Day War in 1967, the centrepiece of US Middle Eastern policy has been its relationship with Israel. The combination of unwavering support for Israel and the related effort to spread ‘democracy’ throughout the region has inflamed Arab and Islamic opinion and jeopardised not only US security but that of much of the rest of the world. This situation has no equal in American political history. Why has the US been willing to set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of another state? One might assume that the bond between the two countries was based on shared strategic interests or compelling moral imperatives, but neither explanation can account for the remarkable level of material and diplomatic support that the US provides.
